2024-08-22 You can now add automated AI WDD emails similar to the core models under My Account and Edit Profile. Choose this option for these new emails: AI Model Weighted Degree Days: EIA week DD forecasts and changes from each AI model
2024-08-21 The medium range models have struggled this summer with significant heat bias issues. You can see some of that via our bias maps in the Model Metrics section: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/model-bias/tmp2m/na/11-15/2024082100z and the data more here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/city-max-min-verification As a result, we have added 30-day, bias-corrected city max/min temperature forecasts to StormVista. The bias-corrected (BC) data adjusts each forecast day by its specific bias by its specific model, so each day will have a different adjustment. This is different from our original grid-corrected (GC) which just adjusts for Day 1 errors to account for grid interpolation problems and to apply that across the forecast period. Bias-corrected (BC) data works well in the summer due to hot modeling biases in recent years (urban heat island overcompensation on American models and overdoing dry soils and low dew points on European). This BC data will also be very helpful in other stable weather patterns, but GC data would be better when there is a weather regime shift (and perhaps better with winter volatility). We have adjusted the nomenclature of the original city forecasts to GC (Grid-Corrected) and the new to BC (Bias-Corrected) in their various iterations in our updated SV API documentation: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/api#/ This new BC city data is being fed into the relatively new bias-corrected weighted degree day forecasts as well found on various pages and in the API as well.
2024-08-21 New bias-corrected city forecast data now available on StormVista. This bias-corrects each forecast day separately based on its 30-day performance. City forecast example here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/city-plots-max-min-bc/KORD/2024082106z City compare forecast example here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/city-plots-max-min-bc-cities/gfs/2024082106z All of this is added to SV API as well with an example here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/api#/paths/model-data-model---date---cycle-z-city-extraction-max-min-bc_-region-.csv/get
2024-08-16 FourCastNetV2 wind generation forecasts are now included in the SV product set. See examples here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/windgen Also now available on the SV API here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/api#/paths/model-data-model---date---cycle-z-renewables--region--windgen-forecast.csv/get
2024-08-16 New storm-based tropical verification page is now available under Features --> Tropical Models. See the new page here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/tropical/verification Note: We can only verify models that have explicit storm track/intensity outputs, so the machine learning models are not available for these at this time, but dozens of models are being measured now
2024-08-14 A.I. model city-level high and low temperatures as well as regional and national degree day data are now available on SV for the NVIDIA FourCastNetV2 and the ECMWF AIFS model. 2024-08-13 Bias, MAE, and RMSE have been added to the Verification page under Model Metrics for 2-meter temperature 500mb, and 850 temperature. See examples here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/model-verification/model-compare/tmp2m/rmse/na/all/11-15 14-Day and 30-Day scores will fill in over the next few weeks.
2024-08-09 100-meter wind variable added for FourCast A.I. models. See example here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/model-maps/model-ai-fourcastnetv2-gfs/cycle-00/region-na/image-146-wind-power-production
